After the summer of touch and pre-season it was good to get the first game of the season in a friendly against Whitton under the belt. Games like these are always a good way to put a focus on how we are playing the game and blooding players in new positions rather than a result. From our perspective the game was a real success. It was pleasing to see a focus on playing the way which we wanted and the bits from training paying off. The result of this was 6 good tries, scored from different scenarios and different areas of the pitch – this shows the work on decision making and understanding the game being put into practice.
Good also to see a couple of new players joining the squad, notably Ali, who joined as a result of the touch campaign and Eric who was there to support. Another positive, it was good to see Joe Matthews back after a number of months out with injury.
Naturally the game gave us some things to work on which we were able to on the following Wednesday and which we will continue to do, but overall many more positives than work ons.
As we start the season this Saturday, I think we should genuinely be looking forward to the start of the new season, playing some good rugby and some good socials – putting last season well and truly behind us!
